Wildfires
Maui Wildfires – Update 5
This is our fifth blog post on the wildfires. Lisa Morris has provided us with more information in order to assist us in understanding the current nature of the situation.
October 17th was the date through which the Hawaii Governor recommended people stay away from West Maui. This link speaks to West Maui reopening on October 8th with the exception of Lahaina which will be closed indefinitely.
We have learned the following about the hotels:
- They are still housing displaced people
- There still may be issues with water
- There was no order by a civil authority
- There was a “curfew” but there is no information we can find as to the end date of the “curfew”
With respect to access, we know that:
- They will be reopening in zones
- Once the zone is opened, two people from each property will be allowed 48 hours to go through their property.
- After the 2-day period, the zone will be opened to everyone
- They will adjust the reopening of zones as the process continues, depending on what problems develop
- The area with the most businesses may not be opened until November or December
Here is a website that discusses the zones and will have updates as access is granted: Official Recovery Information: Maui Recovers
